In Classroom management, slow learners could be a term usually used for kids with below average IQ levels. It sounds like a lifelong tag suggesting that such kids are non-achievers. However that’s not the issue. The sole drawback with them is that they learn concepts and deliver the goods developmental milestones at a pace slower than their peers.

Teachers and parents play crucial roles in a very slow learner’s life. Creating healthy and conducive surroundings for a slow learner is of utmost importance to enhance their pace. Usually teachers who have a slow learner in their class face problems: maintaining with the term syllabus, worry of losing fellow feeling toward such students, and many others.

Here are a few classroom management tips for teachers to motivate slow learners.

1. Patience is essential

Being patient is that the foremost aspect of teaching a slow learner. The prime issue with slow learners is their weak cognitive skills and slow speed of learning. An instructor should be understanding and patient toward their ability to get distracted easily and having a low attention span. Try to realize creative ways that to cope up with the situation of repeating every basic instruction, concepts.

2. Involve classmates
Teach the other students to empathize with these special students. Specially ask them to not bully or tease slow learners. Inform them about their condition and the way they may build a difference. Ensure you have these timely sessions within the slow learner’s absence.

3. Less Homework
Homework for students like these may be additional of a burden than learning. For such kids, quality matters over quantity. Having minimum homework would help them understand learning and reduce their anxiety. This may maintain their enthusiasm towards school.

4. Peer Tutoring
Let friends help. Being tutored from someone who is of a similar age works better for everybody. Allow them to choose one or two of their friends to form a study cluster. Assign the study group the task of reiterating the new teachings of the day and helping with homework.

5. Praise them
Every small little bit of genuine appreciation helps. Praising little effort of a slow learner in front of the class would definitely boost up their confidence.

6. What not to do

Do not scold them in front of everybody, try this privately. don’t force of written education. Work on reading and oral exercises initial. don’t allow them to quit making an attempt. Encourage them to continue their hard work even it means that extending the time deadlines. Don’t be overprotective.

The children need to understand that it’s completely okay to learn things slowly than to not learn at all. Patience and continuous encouragement is essential.
